what you got wrong comes back

The sections below follow the same order.

01 Build

Build the repertoire

Play moves on the board and the repertoire tree grows with them. Nothing is locked: add variations and annotations, reorder moves, and cut what you no longer want.

Repertoire visualisation
See the whole tree at once instead of one move at a time. The line you are on stays highlighted, so you can tell where a branch leads before you commit to it.
Separate repertoires for White and Black
Choosing an opening and answering one are different jobs, so keep them apart. There is no limit on how many repertoires you create.
Import what you already have
Paste PGN text, open a PGN file, or bring in a Lichess study. Chess.com, ChessBase and other software export the same format.
Export any time
Every repertoire exports to PGN text or a PGN file. Your preparation is never locked to one app on one phone.
Start from a ready-made repertoire
Downloadable repertoires are editable templates, built from Lichess studies, videos and our own preparation.
Transpositions handled for you
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 and 1. Nf3 Nc6 2. e4 e5 reach the same position. The app knows that, however you got there.

However your preparation exists today, it can become a repertoire. And it can always leave again as PGN.

02 Refine

Refine it against real games

A repertoire is only as good as its coverage. Before you spend a month memorising it, find out what real opponents play, where your lines run out, and which branches are not worth keeping.

Opening book
Every move played from the position in front of you, with win, draw and loss figures and the number of games behind each one. Filter it to your own rating band, because what is common at 1200 and what is common at 2200 are different openings. How it works
Stockfish on the board
Run the engine while you build, so a line you invent is a line you have checked.
Blind Spot Finder
Scans the whole repertoire for likely opponent moves you have not prepared, most probable first. How it works
Smart Trim
The opposite job. It finds branches that almost never occur in real games, so you can stop studying them. How it works

? 32% of games not in your repertoire
The Blind Spot Finder compares your repertoire with the game database and reports the replies you have no answer to.

03 Train

Train until you can recall it

Training shows a position and asks for the move. It works through one complete line at a time and varies the opponent's choices, so a session feels like a game rather than a stack of flashcards.

Entire Repertoire
Practise every position in order, from the first move to the end of each line.
Single Variation
Drill one line until it is solid, which is what a sharp variation actually needs.
Smart Train
Spaced repetition that shows a position just before you would have forgotten it. Right answers widen the gap, wrong ones shorten it. How it works
Often Failed Positions
Your training history remembers every miss, so the positions that keep catching you are one tap away.
New Positions
Rehearse only what you have just added, without walking through lines you already know.
Training filters
Layer restrictions on any mode: depth limits, move history filters, or main lines only for a large imported repertoire.

100 75 50 25 4h d1 d3 d8 d22 d30 reviewed left alone recall %
Left alone, a line fades. Each review lifts it back and buys a longer gap before the next one.

04 Play

Then go and use it

Preparation is not a study habit for its own sake. It changes what happens in the game: which positions you reach, how much clock you still have when the real work starts, and how often you are the one holding the surprise.

Keep your clock
Moves you decided at home cost you seconds instead of minutes. That time is still there when the position turns sharp.
Traps only work once
The Fried Liver, the Blackburne Shilling, the Légal Trap. Every one of them is dangerous exactly until you have the answer written down.
Hold the surprise
A sound sideline you know well beats a main line you half remember. Your opponent has to solve at the board what you solved at home.
Reach familiar middlegames
A repertoire steers you into the same structures again and again, and structures you have played before are structures you have plans in.
Turn a loss into a line
Lost to something you had never seen? Look it up, decide your answer, and add it that evening. The same opening never costs you twice.

The opening book, showing what your opponents actually play
stop where the plan is clear prepared not yet needed move 1 move 16
Preparation buys you the first ten moves or so. The clock and the concentration you save go to the part of the game that decides it.
